cerebellum:-
cerebellum lies dorsal to the brain stem in the occipital fossa.
-it is divided into right and left cerebellar hemisphere
connected to the brain stem by 3 peduncles
1)superior cerebellar peduncle(connects midbrain
2)middle cerebellar peduncle connects pons
3)inferior cerebellar peduncle connects medulla oblangate
-ipsilateral control of voluntary movements
functional division:-
1)archi/vestibulo cerebellum
2)paleo /spinal cerebellum
3)neo cerebellum
cerebellum has 4 nucleas:-
i)nucleas dentatus
ii)nucleas emboliformis
iii)nucleas festigus.
iv)nucleas globous
functions of cerebellum;-
1)archi cerebellum;-
BALANCE OR EQUILIBIRIUM
regulates the stability of head and body
-it controlsoccular movement.
nystegmus cuased due to cerebellar lesion(involuntary movement of eyeball.
2)paleo cerebellum:-
muscle tone and stretch reflex.
-rapid muscular activities -diadokinesis
3)neocerebellum-
coordination ,control ,precise movement.
-regulation of rate of movement range, direction force etc..
thereby bringing about coordinated wrong involuntary movement.
-cerebellum do not initiate movement but coordinate voluntary movement:-
effects of cerebellar lesion:-
1)ataxia-incoordinated jerky movement
2)intentional tremor
3)drunken gait
4)dysmetria-unable to judge the range of movement.
5)adiadokokinesia-unable to do rapid alternative movement.
6)stammering speech
7)nystagmus
