hypothalamus:-
situated below thalamus.
function:-
1)endocrine function: hypothalamus produced several releasing factors and inhibitory factors which elevate the effect on pituatory that secrets hormones
eg:-thyroid releasing factors from thalamus initiate TSH in anterior pituitary .
nuclei:1)paraventricular from hypothalamus
2)supra optic nuclei
secrets ADH and oxytocin which gets released in post-pituitary whenever required
2)control of food intake
i)hunger center-desire to eat.
ii)satiety center:-satisfaction or fullness of stomach
3)regulation of water balance
i)thirst center-controls excretion of water
- dryness of mouth /oral cavity. which helps in fluid intake.
4)regulation of body temperature-behaves like thermostat
vasoconstriction,shivering-to conserve heat
vasodialation-sweating-loss of excess heat.
5)control of behavior:-rage anger etc..
thalamus:-
-they are sub cortical structures
-looks like oval mass with several nuclei
-in cerebral cortex producing intended movement in an effective way.
function:-
its a sensory relay station for all general and special sensation except olfactory sensation.
ii)helps in storage of information.
iii)helps in posture adjusting system by modifying
iv)it signal to perform the efficient movement.
v)it forms link between cerebellum and basal ganglion and cerebral cortex
