packed cell volume (PCV)

 packed cell volume:-

also known as haemotacrit volume

  • it is the percentage of packed red cells 
  • plasma normal value
    • male -45+- 7%
    • female 42 +- 5%
  • significance:-
    • looking  at the content  we can check if the patient is suffering from anemia 
    • if plasma is yellowish  patient is suffering from  jaundice
    • if plasma is turbid patient is suffering from lipemia
    • plasma is pinkish ,hemolysis of RBC
    •
