sphenomandibular ligament.
####
temporomandibular ligament :_
strong ligament composed of teo parts
a) an oblique element outer
b)an inner horizontal element
outer oblique element attaches to neck of the condyle.and articular eminence .
-serves as suspensory ligamnet and limits downward and posterior motion of the mandible as well as limiting rotation of the condyle during mandibular depression
-inner horizontal component of ligament is attached to the lateral pole o f condyle and posterior portion of the disc and to th articular eminence.
-limiting posterior translation of the condyle protects retrodiscal pad
stylomandibular ligament:-
weakest \
-consiserd thickened part of the parotid sheath joining the styloid process to the angle of mandible.
-limiting protrussion of the mandible.
sphenomandibular ligament:_
strong ligamnetie, wing hinge.
-serves to protect mandible from excessive anterior translation.
attaches to theh spine of sphenoid bone and to middle surface of the r amus of the mandible .
serves as an acessory liament
-provides structural support for the TMJ
the capsule is thin and loose in its anterior medial and posterior aspects but laterallly stronger and re inforces with long fibers.
-lack of strength of the capsule anteriorly in congruency of bony articular surfaces
predisposes the joint to anterior dislocation of mandibular condyle
-capsule is highly vascular and innervated to provide a great deal of information about position and movement of TMJ
-the portion of the capsule suerior to disc in lax whereas inferior to disc is tunt.
-disc is move firmly attached to condyle below and freer to move on articular eminence above
