subtalar joint :- articulation and structure

 subtalar joint :-

the  talocalcaneal or subtalar joint formed by the there separate plane  articulation between the talus anteriorly and calcarenous inferiorly
-
subtalar joint structure :-
there are three articulation between the talus and calcaneus
 1) posterior articulation
2) anterior articulation
3) medial articulation

-the posterior articulation is formed by the concave facet on the under surface of the body of the talus and convex facet on the body and neck of talus  and concave facet on the calcaneous.

- carpal tunnel between posterior articulation:_ and the anterior and medial articulation  there is bony  tunnel formed  by a surface in the inferior talus  and superior calcaneous ,it turns obliquely across the foot its large end ( sinus tarsi ) lies just anterior to fibular malleolus and its small end lie below tibial malleolus, and above a bony out cropping on the calcaneus
- the tarsal canal and ligament  divide  the posterior articulation and the anterior + medial  articulation of the subtalar joint into seperate non communicating  joint cavities
-the posterior articulation has its own capsule and anterior  and medial articulation share a capsule  with the the talonavicular joint.
